September 18, 2009 — Barley Cove Beach

Barley Cove Beach in Goleen, County Cork (West) — Ireland
Barley Cove Beach had some very different and interesting features. We had to walk quite a distance to get to the beach from the "car park," and we had to cross a pontoon bridge on the way. The first thing we noticed is little caves in the sand along the banks. We learned the caves were occupied by rabbits and were fortunate enough to catch a glimpse of several in the distance on the walk back to the bus. While on the beach, Dad stopped several times to dig for clams in areas where there were air bubbles in the wet sand. Of course, we both went up to our knees in the ocean. At the end of the beach was a pretty impressive cave.
