Dunbeg Stone Fort in Fahan/Ventry/Dingle, County Kerry - Ireland
Since we only had about 40 minutes to adventure through the fort, we bypassed the restaurant and headed straight for the fort. It's a small but impressive fort located on a sheer cliff promontory that projects south into Dingle Bay at the base of Mount Eagle. The defenses consist of four lines of banks, five fosses, and inner drystone rampart with a complex entrance flanked by two guard chambers. A souterrain extends under the causeway from the entrance and in the interior is a single clochaun (Beehive). I just could not resist standing on one of the walls and throwing my arms up into the air — with such a beautiful expanse surrounding me!
